We're not just another charity. We make the helpers stronger.
Local helpers
Our partners know the animals and the need on the ground. They're already out there – often alone and without funding.
Targeted support
We fund what's missing: food, vet care, neutering. And we help with organisation and reach.
Visible impact
You see what arrives: rescues, animals and their stories, shared openly on our WhatsApp channel.

Animal in need
I've found an injured animal. Can I message you on WhatsApp?
Yes – but in an acute emergency, first call an animal rescue service (Tierrettung), an emergency vet or the police (133). Our WhatsApp isn't staffed around the clock. Do message us afterwards: we'll help you find the right place to turn to and work out the next steps. All numbers: emergency directory.
Who do I call in an emergency in Austria?
Police on 133 for animal cruelty, an animal in danger or an accident involving an animal, the fire brigade on 122 if an animal is trapped or stuck, and the emergency vet service for injuries or poisoning. You'll find the animal rescue and emergency vet services for each federal state (Bundesland) in the emergency directory.
I've witnessed animal cruelty. Where do I report it?
If an animal is in acute danger, call the police (133) straight away. Otherwise, the official vet (Amtstierarzt) at the district authority (Bezirkshauptmannschaft) or municipal authority (Magistrat) is responsible; the animal welfare ombudsperson (Tierschutzombudsstelle) of your federal state also takes tip-offs. Note down the place, date and time and – if it's safe – take photos or a video.
I've found a poisoned bait. What should I do?
Don't touch it, keep dogs away and inform the police (133) – laying poisoned baits can be a criminal offence. Photograph what you've found, with the place and time. If an animal has eaten any of it: go to the vet straight away. More on this: Dog poisoned – what to do?
I saw an animal in need on holiday – in Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary or Türkiye. Can you help?
Message us on WhatsApp with the place (ideally as a shared location), photos and a short description. We'll check whether one of our partners nearby can help. We can't promise it every time – but we'll try.
I've found a cat or a dog. How do I find the owner?
Have the animal checked for a microchip at a vet or animal shelter – it's quick and usually free. Report the find to the municipality (Gemeinde, lost property office) or the police. What happens next is explained in our guide Found an animal – what to do?
Helping & donating
How can I help if I can't take in an animal?
In lots of ways: with a donation for food, vet care and neutering, as a temporary foster home, as a driver for transports, with donations in kind – or by sharing our appeals. Tell us what suits you and we'll get back to you with concrete options.
What are donations used for?
For the work of our partners on the ground: food, veterinary treatment, neutering and help with running animal shelters. We show what happens with the money in our community, with photos and reports from the field.
How do I donate?
The easiest way is via our donation page saveouranimals.world/donate – as a one-off or regular gift. Questions about a larger donation or a corporate partnership? Message us directly.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
That depends on whether the association is on the Austrian Ministry of Finance's list of organisations eligible for tax-deductible donations. Just ask us on WhatsApp – we'll tell you the current status and what details you need to provide.
Can I sponsor an animal or give a sponsorship as a gift?
Tell us which animal or project you'd like to sponsor. We'll let you know which sponsorship options our partners currently have.
Which donations in kind do you need?
It changes from one mission to the next – usually food, blankets, leads, carriers and medication from a vet's list. Before you send anything, please check with us first: that way every donation ends up where it's needed right now.
How do I become a foster home?
Tell us where you live, how much space and time you have, and whether you already have animals. We'll talk to you personally about whether an animal would suit you, and which one – and support you the whole time.
Can I help out on the ground in the partner countries?
Sometimes, yes – for example at neutering or feeding campaigns. Tell us what you can do (vet, veterinary nurse, practical trades, photography, driving) and when you're available.
Adoption
Can I adopt an animal through you?
Yes. We introduce animals looking for a home on saveouranimals.world/adoption. Tell us which animal you're interested in – we'll share everything we know about its character and health.
How does an adoption work?
Getting to know each other, advice, home check, contract, handover. We talk openly about daily life, time and costs – so that the animal can stay for good. Handovers never take place in car parks or at motorway service stations, always at a fixed address. And we're here for your questions after the move, too.
Are the animals vaccinated, microchipped and tested?
When an animal moves from abroad to a new home, EU law requires, among other things, a microchip, a valid rabies vaccination, an EU pet passport and an official health certificate; the move is notified in the EU's TRACES system. Which other vaccinations and tests (e.g. for Mediterranean diseases) an animal has had is listed in its paperwork – ask us about it before you adopt.
What happens if it doesn't work out with the animal?
Get in touch with us before you give the animal up. Often a conversation or a trainer helps – and if not, we'll find a good home together. No animal should end up in a shelter because nobody feels responsible.
WhatsApp channel & helper network
What do I get in the Save Our Animals WhatsApp channel?
News from our missions, animals looking for a home, and appeals when help is needed fast – such as a transport or a foster home. Plus practical know-how on first aid and animal health.
What's the difference between the channel and the helper network?
In the channel, you just read along – other people can't see your phone number. The helper network is a WhatsApp community for everyone who gets actively involved: foster homes, drivers, animal welfare groups. Members can see each other there, which is why we invite people personally after you've messaged us.
Does it cost anything to take part?
No. The channel and the helper network are free – all you need is WhatsApp.
How often do messages come, and can I mute them?
We only post when there's something to say. You can mute the channel at any time or unfollow it with one tap.
How quickly do you reply on WhatsApp?
As fast as we can – usually the same day. Our WhatsApp is answered by people, not a machine. In an acute emergency, please call an animal rescue service, a vet or the police directly.
Data protection
What data does the association see when I message you?
Your phone number, your WhatsApp name and your profile picture (depending on your settings), plus everything you send us. We only use this to reply to you and deal with your request.
Do you pass on my data?
No, not for advertising. Only if it's needed for your request – for example to a local partner when you report an animal in need – and only as much as necessary. WhatsApp's own privacy policy (Meta) applies to WhatsApp itself.
How do I delete my data?
Just send us "Please delete my data" on WhatsApp or to info@saveouranimals.world. We'll delete the chat and any details we're not required to keep.
About Save Our Animals
Who are Save Our Animals?
A non-profit animal welfare association based in Reichraming, Upper Austria. We support people and groups who stand up for animals, bring them together and strengthen them financially – above all in Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Türkiye.
What does "We help the helpers" mean?
On the ground, people have long been rescuing animals – often alone, without money, without a break. We don't build a new organisation alongside them; we strengthen exactly these helpers: with food, vet care and neutering, with organisation and with reach.
Why animal welfare abroad when there are shelters here too?
Because the need there is particularly great and the help particularly effective: through neutering, our partners stop more and more animals being born on the street. And if you'd like to help here, you'll also find associations in Austria in the helper directory.
Why neutering?
Because it tackles the problem at the root: every neutering prevents puppies and kittens from being born on the street, where they barely stand a chance. That's why we fund our partners' neutering campaigns.
One animal. One person who helps. A new beginning.
Message us – we'll get back to you personally and show you how you can help. Whether it's five euros, a foster place or simply sharing a post.
